Malta gained 2 more wrecks, which will start serving as artificial reefs. MV Cominoland was an old ferry of 35 meter by 9 meter. She got company from MV Karwela. With its length of about 50 meter, she is a bit bigger but both vessels are worth an in-depth visit! As both wrecks are scuttled close to shore, you can dive these ships both from land as by boat. The maximum depth is around 40 meter. The ships were sunk in the Gozo channel between Malta & Gozo. The area is called Ix-Xatt L’Ahmar in Gozo (GPS 36.01.03.02N & 14.17.13.79E) where the previous scuttling of the MV “Xlendi” also took place. With the scuttling of these vessels, Gozo finally obtained some suitable wrecks for the diving tourist and a site, which is sheltered from strong Western & Northern winds. Other wrecks, waiting to be scuttled in Malta, can be seen here.
